[according to circa's twitter page on 04/27/09, "Colin just informed me that he made a playlist of every single idea we have. There are 450"]
[This could include rough, final and studio demos as well as jam/improv sessions from Circa Survive's entire span as a band (2004-2009)]

________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

I put a few mysteries that I was curious about after I put the newly confirmed info (props to steve btw). There have been may threads associated with these questions that have come and gone on 3 different message boards but I thought I'd copy and paste the info I have one more time.

There you have it:

"On Letting Go" Sessions

01 - Living Together
02 - In The Morning And Amazing...
03 - The Greatest Lie
04 - The Difference Between Medicine And Poison Is In The Dose
05 - Mandala
06 - Travel Hymn
07 - Semi Constructive Criticism
08 - Kicking Your Crosses Down
09 - On Letting Go
10 - Carry Us Away
11 - Close Your Eyes To See
12 - Your Friends Are Gone
13 - 1,000 Witnesses (Compilation-Bound Heavier Song) [4.22.08]
14 - The Most Dangerous Commercials (Especially Heavier Song) [6.30.08]
15 - The Devil Song (Drums only)
16 - There's Always 100 Steps Ahead (Acoustic/No Drums)

We also now know that the "Miracle Sun" recording was not made during these sessions. Since it is a (Studio Demo), I feel like it was not recorded at their home studio (which Colin refered to once as "The Hatch") in Doylestown but much more likely at the Skylight with Vince and Rach or Cannon Road in Freehold, NJ.

"The Devil Song" has been recorded as a rough demo.

Steve mentioned it once on 10-27-2006, 11:44 PM:

Quote

"yeah its a new song. we never played it live. its one of my favorite new songs. i wish i could post the demo of it but nope sorry. :P"
I think this demo has the entire band playing on it and was probably recorded after one of their tour breaks in May-June 2006 or Sept-Oct 2006. The first performance of this song that I know of is when Ant played it on Aug. 26, 2006 opening for TSOAF.

Not too much is known about these tour break demo sessions other than:

Post by Colin on December 13th, 2006:

Quote

"Its actually not that cold tonite. (my sister got her permit! how rad is that?)
I'm sitting inside the walls of our house built of warm winter love. Watching the science channel. (it's so awesome) Anthony is out in the hatch laying down new ideas…. He went back to the first demo that was made of this batch, which was written way back in april after the saves the day tour. The demo already had vocals but he is kind of approaching the song from a new perspective. We all tend to do this with our parts as we go along. It's a refinement stage of sorts now. I find that a lot of great ideas come out when you distance yourself from the song for a while and then come back to it at a point in the future yet to be determined. Haha, pretty much when you can't even remember what it sounds like.
Nick and Steve made an awesome stop animation last night. Hopefully they put it up here for you to see. Its sweeeeeeeeeeeeeeeet. Making stuff is fun. Goodnite yall. -c"
I'm very interested in the initial demos that were made prior to "Juturna" being recorded. Spring through Late-Fall 2004.

Brendan wrote in 2005:

Quote

"wow. i havent been on this thing in forever.you are right on!!!! the GGB demo was recorded at skylight studios by vince and rachel.(zolof) it was done at the same time as handshakes at sunrise. we all loved the version too. we actually tracked handshakes with Mcternan for juturna and didnt even finish tracking it because we liked the original so much. we recorded a ton of our own demos for juturna at our house. and we all got demoitis. ha. cool topic. peace yall."
Colin wrote on 12-21-2004, 03:08 AM:

Quote

"we all lived in a house in trevose pa for a couple monthes while writing....it was wonderful. we dont live anywhere anymore but thats quite ok. word."
The other mention of the "Juturna" demos is of the rough/jam/instrumental demos. (which I would love to hear how these riffs/parts began)

Chiaro wrote on 09-21-2005:

Quote

"There are none out. Steve had like 20 very very rough demos on cds in his car. Im guessing a bunch had to be instrumentals but he said somebody stole them. That loser probably listened and said what the hell is this shit cause they were really really rough versions."
There were rumors that recordings were made during an early incarnation of the band when Camille Driscoll (keyboards), Colin Mahony (bass?) & Tom Cullen (drums?) were involved and that Ant was unhappy with the songs or the recordings or simply the direction the band was moving in. Not much is known of early Circa Survive (Circa Survival, Cicada Lyre, etc.)

I also found it interesting that "Handshakes At Sunrise" was recorded at the same time as "Great Golden Baby (Demo)" Does that mean that Jon Gartland, T.J. du Blois, Nick Beard and Steve Clifford were all at Skylight at the same time? A passing of the torch-type moment.

Who played piano on "Juturna (Demo)"? Someone (not in the band) once said it was Camille but I just don't know if that's true.

Also another mystery that has remained is about "Handshakes At Sunrise (1st Demo)". I know Ant sang, Colin played at least one of the guitar parts and the drum tracks. Did Brendan play guitar on this? Who played bass? Someone also said that this demo has organ/keys on it played by Camille but I don't know.

Guillame Lambert? He is credited on the Inuit Sessions EP as being involved/playing/jamming with an early version of the band. Did he really play with these guys or is it an inside joke akin to Wesley Snipes? I started thinking Tom Cullen wasn't real either (The Stand - M-O-O-N: That spells Tom Cullen) but I'm pretty sure he must've played drums before Steve and TJ but after Colin.

Sorry about all this. I have an inquiring mind and like to keep track of these obscure recordings mentioned once and never revisited.
If you look closely enough, you can see what's there. And what's there is often overlooked.
And now that the old Circa board has been deleted I guess it's good I archived this info.
Hoping that someday these obscure recordings will see the light of day.

Yeah, I prefer the demo of TGGB to the studio version.

Either way, I love that song and it is one of my favorites.

Get outta here, i had no idea Steve wasn't the original drummer, really?
Inuit Sessions is the only one i don't own because it's so rare.
The drumming is so similar i had no idea.
"You learn something new every day" LOL

BSN related news: Glass Arrows is still my fave song, when Ant belts out "Disappeared from public places never seen again" i get pumped, the delay on the guitar breakdowns is beautiful too.

On Handshakes At Sunrise (early demo), the drums were played by colin.
There was at least one other guy who jammed with anthony and colin on drums back in the inception days also.

Have you heard this version with Colin drumming? If so how different is the drum beat? Is there any way i can hear it? Sorry about all the questions but this is interesting news.

yeah. it leaked in may 2004.

http://circaboard.co...=...st&p=146375

i suggest you take a good look around. this board has been here since may 2007
and the old circa board was started in fall 2004.
before any boards there was the Circa Thread on the SaoBoard.
So were looking at 6 years of info about Circa Survive.
There is much to find if sought.

Dang, just found out about this EP today...haha. Not sure how it slipped by me. Sounds superb, though...really rounds out listening to BSN combined with this EP.

I'm still a little dissapointed, though...for a year now there has been one song I really wanted to hear. Sounds like it could be amazing. It's located at 1:10 and 2:34 in this video:

LAOEeSx7W0U

:)...maybe there will be more songs released?
