Cellar (Live At Studio 4) | Anthony Green

BulletMedia . 08.04.2016 . Interview
"One song on the album that he didn’t write himself, but is no less affecting, and effective, is “Cellar.”

“The song was originally written by my friend Jeremy SH Griffith,” he says. “I heard a working demo of it on an overnight drive and it possessed me. All I wanted to do was learn it, fuck with it and play it all the time. So happy to have it be part of this album, because it feels exactly like I wanted to say.”

“I can see it in your eyes. I can see the way you compromise,” Green sings in the stripped-down acoustic performance video. If that’s not love and marriage right there then nothing is." "

I should be the one to hold you close
Sunday Morning (All day)
I can feel the sun is on the rise
Faced with all (I need to know)

I can see it in your eyes
I can see without compromise (You're all I need)
I can hear it in your sigh
I can hear without compromise (You're all I need)

I will be the one to hold you down
Monday morning (All day)
I can feel the sun is on the rise
Face with all (I need to know)

I can see it in your eyes
I can see without compromise (You're all I need)
I can hear it in your sigh
I can hear without compromise (You're all I need)

**BREAK**

I can see it in your eyes
I can see without compromise (You're all I need)
I can hear it in your sigh
I can hear without compromise (You're all I need)

"@coslive premiered one of my favorite tracks of @anthonygreen666 's Pixie Queen today. It's also one of my favorite tracks I got to help cowrite and build up from the ground. Just like most of our relationship, the core song happened so organically...the guts of the song grew in a matter of minutes. Anthony's brilliant and killed it all around especially thematically. So proud of this record, and so proud of one of my favorite teammates in the world. More fire coming soon. Go over to COS to listen to the song and over to @memorymusiclabel to preorder and support one of the best people in the world"

I am liking this album much more than I expected I would. Much as I love AG in Circa, his solo stuff has always been a little hit-or-miss for me. This is much better than past albums - Will Yip's involvement doesn't hurt. I'm on my third listen currently. Current stand-outs for me:

I'm Not Holding You Back
Dawn On The Canal
East Coast Winter

"I wrote the song east coast winters in this room almost three years ago thinking about killing myself. It was the saddest, most desperate feelings I've ever felt. Tonight I'm back play Otto bar and celebrate the death of that hopelessly desperate and selfish give thanks for this new life I've been trying to build with my friends and family. Don't ever give up on yourself. You can change anything about your life that you don't like, give your pain a purpose and make it meaningful. Believe in love and its healing powers. Sing and dance everyday and listen to the poor please who love you. #reallove #realmagic"

I remember when Beautiful Things came out, I was a bit disappointed because I preferred the acoustic performances of most of the songs instead of the full band versions on the actual album. I wasn't a huge fan of Young Legs either. However, the collection of tracks I've heard so far on Pixie Queen is getting me just as excited as when Avalon came out. A Reason to Stay is the catchiest fucking song. Also, i'm in love with the cover photo. <3

i def agree in that Pixie Queen seems to have a cohesive quality/flow to it.
the songs for a large part fit together. more so than bt or yl imo.
im wondering if thats why resentment is absent.
like it just didnt fit in with this recent batch of songs.
and not about meredith or his boys. thats what im thinking.

Ugh, I would kill to have a full version of Resentment acoustically! So good. You're right though, it didn't fit with the theme.

I know i'm late, but I purchased the album and there is so much to love! Anthony sounds really really good! In Circa and Saosin, I feel like his voice has gotten a bit coarse, but I can't hear that at all on this album. He sounds like his usual perfect self. lol I also love the video for A Reason to Stay. I can't help but think back to the video for She Loves Me So - from a young, carefree couple in love, to being parents of 3 kids! It's pretty neat to be able to witness the different stages in their lives, even if it's just on social media or through music. Overall, the album is absolutely beautiful! Although it gets me emotional as fuck.

its rare that this happens for me,
but the music video of A Reason To Stay
actually makes me like the song more.
it kind of has everything i like to see from him
and fits really well with the feel of the song.

i think the consistent, thematic sound of the music on Pixie Queen
has led to his vocal tone being noticeably smooth and heartfelt when compared to his other recent contributions to albums.
the non-aggressive nature of this album leads towards the somewhat muted yet not passive quality of the vocals.
it just works. it fits. very complimentary to the cohesiveness of this record.
i feel like the songwriter in him has matured or is being honed.
hearing this album makes me smile and feel really good. def very proud of this one.
